The one statement that comes across to businesses on social media is that they should be following their competitors. Why? When you follow your competitor’s social media pages, it can offer multiple benefits when managing your own presence.
By following your competitors, you can get an idea of what types of content will work. For example, if your competitor posts a parody style video of their services, and it works well, you could try using the same idea. However, if they post informational videos, and they don’t receive any engagement, then it can be an indicator that you should stay away from that type of content.
When you follow your competitors on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other platforms, you have the opportunity to see if they are badmouthing or spreading lies about your business. While it is uneasy to see sometimes, there is a chance to course-correct any negativity surrounding your business on social media. Such as responding to comments with correct information and letting the competitor that the information they’re spreading is incorrect (in a nice way).
Following your competitors allows you to get an idea of their content strategy. By monitoring them, you can see how they are doing with content and engagement. Lastly, it will help you differentiate yourself from the competition. If you and a competitor have the same idea, whoever gets it posted first will be the original one.
